Hardcover Verified download. downloadd as a gift for son who has a million legos and an endless imagination. While it's true this has no instructions, it is great for giving ideas of what you can build While he doesn't always make something exactly like the picture, the point is, he is using his imagination and not staring at a screen. He also learns to improvise if we don't have a particular piece.
A really neat book for Lego lovers looking for extra ideas. Would also make an awesome coffee table book. I downloadd this book with the idea that there would be building ideas as well as some instructions as to how to create them. The book itself is simply photographs of various Lego creations. It does not provide any instructions or break downs of items to use to build their images. Although there are some great ideas, I wish there was a bit more directive for kiddos that want their image to look exactly as the photograph.
I would not recommend this product for people wanting step-by-step instructions, but for those simply looking for inspiration this is a good book. In those books, there were lots of photos of LEGO creations, and instructions that showed how to build some of the models in the book.
When I saw the title of this book, the obvious connection was to those old books, so how does it compare? The one thing that's missing is the instructions - this is not an instruction manual.
Like Sean's books, the intent of the book is to give you ideas on how to build things. You'll find that a lot of ideas can be crammed into pages. The book is broken up into sections, essentially these are: This last section is very interesting, showing you things such as picture frames and pencil holders made out of LEGO.
Each of the sections starts out with a two page spread of useful parts that can be used to build creations in that section. I found that even these pages gave me ideas and started me thinking on how a particular part could be used. After that you'll find a number of creations beautifully photographed, often with multiple views which come in handy if you are attempting to reverse engineer one of the creations so that you can build it yourself.
The multiple angle photos in this book help so that you won't experience that problem. At the end of each section, you'll find a few pages where you "Meet the Builder. I was surprised to find that one of the builders is only 18!
I think LEGO fans of all ages will enjoy the book, but young children might have a hard time handling the book due to its size. The lack of instructions also mean that it is probably more suited to an experienced LEGO builder - either an older child or a parent who enjoys building with younger children.
My six year old son enjoys paging through the book, but it's a bit much for my 3 year old to handle. Neither would be able to build anything in this book without my help.
Overall, I think this is another great book option to inspire LEGO builders - but remember this book is about ideas and imagination - and you can't write instructions for that. If you know what you are downloading, I think you'll really like this book, but don't expect it to be what it is not.
I like this item because for me downloading lego boxes seems more and more pointless They come packaged with the right amount of pieces that you assemble in one way to create the design advertised The problem that comes with that is that in reality, kids destroy it really fast and then lose several pieces So basically, it's done..
You build it once and unless you glue it, you will never build it again This book is relevant because its purpose is to inspire kids to build new items with a variety of pieces So at the end, I find the download more relevant. It only has pictures of things to make. No step by step instructions. They are specialty pieces.
I have an example in the picture. A bunch of pics of what can be built with no detail on how to build any of it. Got it for my young nephew he said the book isn't that detailed as the other Lego books usually are.
So in my opinion it depends on your kid's age and interest if your kid wants to follow precise instructions to build that ain't the book for him. But for someone who would just like to have ideas and they'd go for them their own way that would be a great book. Hope that helps! This is like an engineering version of a DK Publishing tour guide book, but for legos.
Little kid loves it because it gives him details of how specific lego shapes can be strategically used to make realistic representations of anything. Jan 01, Robert rated it it was amazing Shelves: There is lots to love about this book and nothing to dislike, so long as you accept the title: There are no step-by-step instructions as you would find if you bought an off-the-shelf LEGO kit. Instead there heaps of pictures of different types of LEGO objects, from buildings to animals to vehicles to practical objects e.
I think it's great that LEGO reach out to their biggest fans in this way There is lots to love about this book and nothing to dislike, so long as you accept the title: I think it's great that LEGO reach out to their biggest fans in this way, instead of using people who work for the company as designers - a very different style emerges, with a somewhat old-time air to it, by which I mean prior to the rebirth of LEGO as a company that does movie tie-ins, cartoon DVDs and video games.
That rebirth probably saved the company from extinction but it's good to see that they can mix that modern commercialism with the old enthusiast-supporting ethos with projects such as this book. There's a lot more than just pictures of LEGO models, though: There are also interviews with the designers, covering such things as what they would build given all the time and bricks they needed, what their biggest models are and where they get their inspiration from.
The graphic design is also excellent and the use of humour makes the book accessible to just about any age of LEGO builder. Great stuff! View 2 comments. Jan 20, Anthony rated it it was amazing.
Dec 01, Ocarl rated it it was amazing. As a Lego Lover I read every bit of this big book, It not only gives very informational pictures, but it has a lot of good reading content that is essential for building things I like.

Some absolutely beautiful MOCs presented in lush colour, with a smattering of break-aparts to show some internal construction techniques, as well as interviews with the AFOLs who made them, all presented in easy-to flick through chapters organised by theme and interest.
6000 LEGOLAND Idea Book
The only problem with the book is one that's not easily surmounted when dealing with a subject that lends itself to the photo-and-caption technique, and that is that I would have liked to have seen a more comprehensive breakdowns Some absolutely beautiful MOCs presented in lush colour, with a smattering of break-aparts to show some internal construction techniques, as well as interviews with the AFOLs who made them, all presented in easy-to flick through chapters organised by theme and interest.
The only problem with the book is one that's not easily surmounted when dealing with a subject that lends itself to the photo-and-caption technique, and that is that I would have liked to have seen a more comprehensive breakdowns of models, showing exactly how effects were achieved, rather than just a few choice interior shots without any in-depth building info. But it's a beautiful coffee-table style book to keep in the Lego building room, and my daughter and I have already played about with favourite designs.
Any book that can help father and daughter build and play together is one worth having around the house. View 1 comment.

I could lock myself in my room for a day with only this book and my lego and forget to come back out! If I did come out my mind would full of lego ideas! This clever book gives you simple but effective ideas from master builders. Sep 30, Grant Wheeler rated it liked it. Great ideas, however a lot of the focus was on placed on designs involving special pieces.
There wasn't a balance present for those working with basic pieces. Overall it was fine. May 26, Charlie rated it liked it.

Anyone with a tub of mixed Lego will be drawn to this book like moths to a flame. After all, this is promising over ideas to put those blocks to good use. What follows. This book is not about having a tub of rectangular blocks and being able to build ho The cover, the concept and the marketing are outstanding.
This book is not about having a tub of rectangular blocks and being able to build houses which means there's still that niche out there and after a small perusal it becomes apparent that there is different Lego magic at work here. This book it designed to spark the imagination. Yes you will need a mixture of Lego styles to replicate the ideas within, however it's likely that readers will encounter plenty of 'I hadn't though about doing that' and 'Heh, that's clever' moments.
The Lego Ideas Book is crammed full of inventive ways to utilise your Lego box and it's unlikely you will recreate many of the designs within, but you won't care, you'll be having to much fun with your Lego. Oct 25, Marie rated it really liked it. Dylan and I actually took the time to read this, not just look at the pictures and it is great! There's lots of helpful tips on using the Lego pieces you have for different things--like a torch can become a lamp.
The other thing I liked about this book is that it really encourages kids to make up their own ideas, not just follow the instructions or examples. This would be a great gift for any beginner Lego builder. Sep 19, Tori rated it it was amazing Shelves: Lego have always been a favorite in my house. I wish I had this book when I was a kid. I really can't wait to dig out my old Legos to try some of these creations as well as sharing them with my best friend and a very special little girl in my life.
Dec 21, Evan rated it it was amazing. Good book can really give you awesome ideas for creations. For example from this book I made a two in one house.
